Rhode Island State Police say they arrested an intoxicated snow plow driver who was traveling in the wrong direction in North Kingstown on Tuesday.

Around 8:30 p.m., a trooper observed a truck equipped with a snow plow traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Route 403. According to police, the vehicle was not being used to plow snow when it was stopped, nor was it a Rhode Island Department of Transportation sub-contractor.

On scene, 55-year-old John Cunha failed a series of sobriety tests before refusing to take a breathalyzer test. Ultimately, Cunha was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Cunha was released on $1,000 bail and will appear in court on Feb. 2.
