Snow will gradually taper this afternoon after dropping over 6 inches in parts of New England, but black ice will linger into the evening and overnight, particularly away from chemically treated interstates, as temperatures drop into the teens beneath a clearing winter sky.

Winter storm warnings and advisories around New England are set to expire through Wednesday evening.

Winter air will continue Thursday and Friday – even with fair sky, we’ll find temperatures topping out at 35 to 40 degrees.

A warming trend is expected this weekend, with high temperatures climbing well into the 40s and perhaps even hitting 50 degrees for some of Southern New England, including the Boston area.

Since the warm-up will be gradual and comes without any rainfall, no new flooding is expected on area rivers.

The next storm expected to impact New England Monday into Tuesday will bring mostly rain, perhaps beginning and ending as snow in the mountains before cool and fair weather returns for the middle of next week in the exclusive Early Warning Weather 10-day forecast.
