There are impressive rainfall totals for southern New England, especially for some towns in Connecticut, central Massachusetts and along the Boston Marathon route.

Not only did we see heavy downpours at times, along with a few embedded thunderstorms, the strong wind also made it a tough day for anyone outdoors for an extended period of time.

The wind gusts topped at 35 mph for Boston and 40-50 mph along the Cape and Islands. Over 60 mph was observed in Rutland, Vermont, while Portland, Maine topped at 48 mph.

Wintry weather still plagues parts of northern New England, mainly interior Maine as temperatures continue to hover around the freezing mark.

The gusts will wind down as the line of heavy downpours slides north and eastward, clearing from southwest to northeast.

Downpours and gusty winds will stick around through the overnight for coastal Maine, as drier and calmer conditions slide into southern New England.

Overnight, temperatures will remain in the 40s for most with some upper 30s in northern New England.

For our Tuesday, we’ll start off with some sunshine south, lingering showers north, before a few spotty showers pop up in the afternoon as a weak frontal boundary propels in from the west. High temperatures return to lower 50s south, upper 40s north.

Turning even more spring-like for Wednesday with highs into the mid to upper 50s south, near 50 north under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Thursday and Friday bring slightly cooler air back into the area with some showers, but at this point, both days do not look like washouts.

The showers clear out by the weekend, so we’ll finally see a beautiful spring-like and mostly sunny weekend for both weekend days in the 50s for highs, followed by a few days topping 60 by the following work week.
