The Burlington International Airport's parking garage roof is now home to a 500-kilowatt solar array.
Gene Richards, director of aviation, said Thursday it's his hope that passengers will gaze down from their aircraft windows and one of their first impressions will be the rooftop solar garden.
The project brings to 81 the number of solar projects in Burlington, generating 1.8 megawatts of power for the city.
Over the anticipated 30-year life of the airport solar project, the Burlington Electric Department expects to save $3.5 million in power costs, an average of approximately $117,000 annually.
