Police Warning Residents After Woman Chased by Stranger

Authorities in a Massachusetts town are warning residents after a woman was chased by a stranger while walking in a recreation area.

Southbridge police say they're looking for a man in connection with the disturbing incident, which was reported on Monday morning.

A woman was walking along the Westville Dam on the Southbridge side when she noticed an older-model, darker color sedan slowed down and drove parallel to her, with an unknown man motioning for her to come to him, police said. The woman ignored him and continued to walk away.

A little ways into the trail, the woman allegedly looked behind her and noticed the same strange man was following her on foot.

The woman told officers she picked up her cellphone and started to call her boyfriend, and when the man noticed she was on her phone, he started to run toward her. She was able to run away, police said, and the suspect then returned to his car and left the area.

In addition to providing a description of the suspect's car, which also had round tail lights and possibly four doors, police say the suspect was described as a man who was approximately 50 years old, wearing blue jeans and a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt with the hood up. The suspect appeared to have white or gray hair coming from underneath the hood and was clean shaven.

Southbridge and Sturbridge police searched the area, but didn't find anyone matching the description of the suspect or the suspect's sedan.

Anyone with information on this incident or who experienced something similar in the area is asked to call Southbridge police at 508-764-5420.
