Splendid Weather on the Fourth Doesn't Disappoint

The much advertised splendid Independence Day weather forecast has delivered: sunshine, warmth and no rain.

While all the heat may result in an isolated sprinkle or shower in the hills of northern Connecticut, northern Rhode Island or southern Worcester County late in the day, the chances of that are very low.

Regardless, high temperatures around 90 degrees inland and in the 80s at the beaches – even on Cape Cod – will set New England up for an incredible evening of fireworks, with temperatures 75 to 80 at fireworks time from the South Coast to the Canadian border and dry weather for all.

On the Esplanade in Boston, a very light breeze in most spots will be just enough to keep the fireworks smoke moving for good visibility of the show! Although heat will continue Friday for all of New England, there will be a noticeable increase in humidity as a wind from the south takes hold.

The first to see increasing humidity will be the Cape and Islands Thursday evening through the overnight with some fog and clouds drifiting in from the ocean, then the rest of us notice the uptick in humid air over the course of Friday, leaving an uncomfortable night for sleeping Friday night, but likely insufficient to brew thunderstorms Friday.

A slow-approaching cold front will focus numerous showers and thunderstorms Saturday from middle and late morning onward in northern New England. Though Southern New England is likely to heat up Saturday, awaiting scattered afternoon and evening thunder ahead of the cold front that makes its passage overnight Saturday night.

By Sunday, new air will be streaming into New England, with a refreshing, pleasant feeling through early next week until heat and eventually humidity slowly rebuild, resulting in returning scattered thunder.
