Springfield Police Investigate City's 8th Homicide of 2019

Although police are calling it a homicide, they have yet to determine the cause of death

Police in Springfield are investigating the death of a man found on a city street in the early morning hours.

Police spokesman Ryan Walsh says although the cause of the victim's death early Wednesday remains unclear, it is considered a homicide.

He says officers responding to reports of a "man down" found the victim at about 1:40 a.m.

He was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim's name wasn't released.

An autopsy is planned to determine how the man died.

Masslive.com reports that the death was the city's eighth homicide of the year. There were 18 homicides in Springfield last year.
