Already plagued with delays and cancellations the last couple of months, the Steamship Authority reported yet another issue with one of their ferries Tuesday night.
According to a post on the Steamship Authority website, the M/V Nantucket lost power in the engine at about 7:45 p.m. as it was rounding Brant Point. The ferry, which was en route from Hyannis to Nantucket, was able to get to the dock on the other engine without any other problems.
Steamship Authority officials said the vessel had recently returned from its scheduled dry dock and repairs, having been cleared by the United States Coast Guard earlier in the day.
Just before noon Wednesday, officials reported that repairs had been completed on the Nantucket and sea trials were successful. The Coast Guard also cleared the vessel to resume service.
The M/V Nantucket resumed its scheduled service beginning with its 12 p.m. trip from Hyannis to Nantucket.
This latest incident with Steamship Authority's ferry fleet comes amid a slew of issues, including more than 500 ferry cancellations during the first four months of 2018.
The Steamship Authority board voted last week to seek an independent review of its operations due to the cancellations. The unanimous decision came as dozens of residents voiced their frustrations.

In a report released two weeks ago, the authority said it has experienced cancellations that are 15 times the yearly average. In one prominent incident, a ferry lost power off the coast of Martha's Vineyard on March 17, stranding 72 passengers for five hours.
The board is expected to issue a recommendation on proposals for the review at their next meeting in June.
