The intersection where four children were struck by a hit-and-run driver in Stoneham, Massachusetts, has long been a problem, one neighbor said.

James McKinnon says cars are always speeding in the area of Elm Street and MacArthur Road, where the kids were struck by a vehicle around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, shortly after the group met at the corner.

McKinnon says his camera captured surveillance video of the crash but he also saw everything with his own eyes.

“I ran outside to help the kids. I had the police on the phone and I was trying to come for the kids,” he shared.

The impact sent some of the kids flying into the air. All four kids were treated at the scene and two were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Vinny Guarino and Caden Parks-Miller, both 13, say the pain of the impact is still setting in.

"It just hits us all head-on and me and her fly onto like that side of the grass,” Vinny said as he described what happened to him and 13-year-old Julia Cabral.

“Everywhere in my abdomen area is super sore and I have a bunch of bruises and I have cuts,” Parks-Miller said.

Cabral said that while another friend largely escaped injury, she will miss most of her remaining field hockey season due to a broken leg.

“I just think that it’s like they should be ashamed of their selves that they hit four kids,” Cabral said of the driver.

“I just truly hope whoever did this does the right thing and turns themself in,” said Cabral’s mother Jenn.

For now, Guarino's dad is just happy everyone is okay.

"This is probably the best outcome you could ask for right now,” Massimo Guarino said.

Stoneham police say they are looking for the driver of a dark-colored Subaru Legacy seen in the surveillance video, which also shows the car hitting a parked car before backing up and taking off.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is encouraged to contact the Stoneham Police Department at 781-438-1215.

    The incident remains under investigation.
