Store Owner Helps Recover Missing Antique Cannon

Steve Conant, owner of Conant Metal and Light, was suspicious when a man brought in the 1920s era cast iron cannon to sell in mid-July

Police say a store owner in Burlington, Vermont, helped recover an antique cannon that was stolen from a home's front porch.

The Burlington Free Press reports that Steve Conant, owner of Conant Metal and Light, was suspicious when a man brought in the 1920s era cast iron cannon to sell in mid-July.

It was the second time the cannon had been taken from Kip de Moll of Burlington.

Conant says his suspicions were heightened by the fact that the man "wanted to make a quick deal." He ended up selling it to Conant for $150.

Conant called police Tuesday morning, and the authorities notified de Moll shortly after.

Police said Tuesday that two suspects have been identified and there is a warrant out for their arrest.
