New England

Stormy Weekend on the Way

Damaging winds and hail, along with heavy rain and lightning, are the biggest threads associated with the storms

Temperatures hit 90 in some communities Friday afternoon, creating beautiful beach weather for much of New England.

Things now change heading into the weekend.

Clouds will increase Friday night with patchy fog and a light wind moving into the area. Downpours and storms will move through parts of Northern New England early on Saturday, but in much of Southern New England the day will start dry.

Over the course of the afternoon downpours and storms will develop all across New England, and some of these will be strong to severe. Damaging winds and hail, along with heavy rain and lightning, are the biggest threads associated with the storms. Right now the risk of severe weather is highest along and south of the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Temperatures on Saturday will be in the 80s, and it will be very humid.

Sunday brings temperatures in the 70s with a muggy feel to start. More occasional downpours and storms will pivot through during the day, and some of these may also contain hail since the atmosphere aloft is so chilly. Humidity will drop by day’s end as the downpours and storms depart.

The big take away for the weekend is that it is definitely not a washout, but the weather is not very dependable. You’ll need to keep up to date with the forecast both days.

Early next week starts quiet and comfortable with highs around 80, then temperatures and humidity go up around the Fourth. Expect highs in the 80s to near 90.
