Student Arrested in Keene Riot

Eighteen-year-old James Schaefer III, a student at Keene State College, is charged with a felony count of reckless conduct after the riots that erupted during Keene Pumpkin Festival in New Hampshire.

Another arrest has been made in the riots that erupted during the Keene Pumpkin Festival in New Hampshire.

Eighteen-year-old Keene State College student James Schaefer III, a New York resident, is charged with a felony count of reckless conduct.

According to the complaint filed in the case, Schaefer threw a beer can at a group of people, "the beer can being a deadly weapon in the manner in which it was used."

Another teen, Jacob Clark, was arrested Thursday on a similar charge.

Schaefer was released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bail, with conditions that he adhere to a curfew between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. and abstain from alcohol and drugs.

His arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 9.

Eighty-four people were arrested and more than 30 people were injured when police armed with riot gear clashed with raucous crowds Oct. 18 into the early morning hours of Oct. 19.

Gov. Maggie Hassan expressed her outrage at the incident, and some students of the college have been working to show that the actions of a few do not define Keene State.
