Student Injured in Vermont School Bus Crash

Authorities are investigating after a 12-year-old student was injured in a school bus crash in Vermont Wednesday morning.

Vermont State Police say the single vehicle crash happened around 7:35 a.m. on Silver Lake Road in Fairfax.

The bus driver, identified as 72-year-old Brian Kelly of Swanton, and 10 students from Georgia Elementary followed emergency protocols when they exited the 2001 International School Bus before first responders arrived, according to police.

The injuries a 12-year-old received were non-life threatening in nature and the child was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center.

Police say they don't believe speed, alcohol or medical conditions played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
