Worcester public school students say they want the school committee to reconsider strict limits that were placed on student cellphone use.
The Telegram & Gazette reports that school committee student representative Jordan Miller told the committee that the rules that took effect at the start of the current academic year have inconvenienced and discouraged students. The rules require students to have their devices powered off and out of sight during school hours.
She says some students want to listen to music outside of class because it helps them concentrate. Some say they could use their phones to take pictures of school work.
The committee is scheduled to review the cellphone policy in January.
Superintendent Maureen Binienda likes the new rules and says they have gotten rave reviews from faculty.
