A stunning grand finale to summer, as highs climb into the mid and upper 80s under lots of sunshine over New England.

Great weather for one last beach day but beware if you plan on heading into the water, the risk for rip currents remains moderate especially along the south-facing beaches, and many don’t have life guards because they are done for the season.

It will be muggy tonight, so time to close your windows and turn on the fan or your A/C if you haven’t removed your window unit yet. The Autumnal equinox begins at 3:50am with a sunrise at 6:32 and sunset at 6:40, this means we will have 12 hours and 8 minutes of daylight on the first day of fall.

Our weather won’t feel like the new season though, highs will be in the 80s once again and it will turn more humid. Clouds will increase throughout the day with showers arriving to the North Country around noon and sliding south by the evening.

The heaviest rain will fall overnight in Southern New England with a few rumbles of thunder especially towards Cape Cod and the Islands. As the cold front pulls away, spot showers are still possible Tuesday, with clearing expected late in the day.

Temperatures will be cooler by mid-week, mainly in the low 70s. There is another chance for a pop-up shower Thursday night into Friday but most of the week look to stay rain-free and crisp.

Our exclusive 10-day forecast shows how temperatures may remain above normal next weekend with highs in the mid-70s to around 80.
