One more round of rain, with some embedded thunder Thursday night is associated with the back edge of hot and humid weather the last couple days.
A cold front traversing New England overnight is pushing off the south Friday morning. As showers end in the morning, sunshine will increase during the afternoon as high pressure from Canada takes over. By afternoon we are all sunny, with highs near 80 south and 70s north.
This high-pressure system will dominate the weather the next several days. As it pushes closer Friday and Saturday, wind from the north will bring in dry air with a clear night, and a mostly sunny Saturday. Temperatures on Saturday start off in the 40s and 50s, climbing to the 70s, except 60s in the hills.
As the high-pressure system progresses to eastern Canada, the wind in New England will come in more from the east. A layer of clouds may move in across southern New England Sunday, with a chance of showers.
We should stay sunny in northern New England all weekend. High temperatures on Sunday in the 60s in parts of southern New England near the coast, to low 70s well inland. Warmer air will try and come back to the north Monday and Tuesday, but that warmer and more humid air will meet resistance from the big cool high-pressure system over the Canadian maritime provinces.
That may mean a persistent onshore flow of rain may possibly developing in southern New England, perhaps even something from the tropics getting close later Tuesday and Wednesday.
The weather map certainly bears watching as we go to next week. We could have a named Tropical Cyclone off the East Coast, south of New England.
