Police: Drug Stakeout Preceded Shooting

Vermont State Police say a Windsor police officer fired his weapon at a drug suspect after the suspect drove a vehicle at an officer.

The Valley News reports Windsor police were acting on a tip about a drug deal Sunday night when officers staked out the location in an unmarked pickup truck.

Police say that when 34-year-old Jorge Burgos of White River Junction and 25-year-old Brittany Smith of Claremont arrived officers ordered them out of the car with guns drawn.

Burgos drove his car at an officer. He was shot in the arm. They then fled into New Hampshire where he was arrested.

Burgos was hospitalized in stable condition.

Burgos is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. It wasn't immediately known if he had a lawyer.
