Police in Lowell, Massachusetts, say a convenience store fought back against two suspects in an armed robbery Wednesday night and a possible suspect has been arrested.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. at 180 Liberty St. At some point during the robbery, the store owner fired two shots at the two suspects from a legally-owned handgun.
The suspects, described as two black males wearing dark-colored hoodies, fled down School Street.
An hour later, police located a man who matched a description, identified as 28-year-old Matthew Fisher, hiding in a yard. Police say Fisher fled on foot and threw a backpack he was carrying, which police later recovered.
Fisher was arrested and transported to Lowell General Hospital. Police found a loaded Tech 9 firearm in the backpack.
Fisher is facing charges including unlawful carrying of a high capacity firearm, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest. He has not been charged in the robbery. Police are investigating if the man was involved in the robbery.
The owner of the store tells necn he feels lucky to be alive, and described firing his gun as the suspect fled.

"The two of them started in different directions, so I shoot at the other guy and the other guy went the other way," Kim Seng said.
Seng said this is the first time he's been robbed.
"I've been here for, what, almost 17 years, just to make a living. Working so hard from 6 (a.m.) to 9 (p.m.) everyday," he said.
