Teen Accused of Attacking Neighbor With Hammer

The victim, who has not been identified, was rushed to Central Maine Medical Center in serious condition

Police have arrested a southern Maine teen after he allegedly attacked his 56-year-old neighbor with a hammer.

Officers responded to a home on Huard Avenue in Auburn around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of the assault. Police say the attack appears to have been random, but the victim and the 14-year-old suspect did know each other.

The victim, who has not been identified, was rushed to Central Maine Medical Center in serious condition. He underwent surgery and is listed in satisfactory condition.

The teen was charged with elevated aggravated assault and attempted murder. He's being held at the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland while awaiting his initial court appearance.

Police say the teen has a history of violent outbursts.
