Teen Arrested in Connection to Chelsea Baseball Bat Assault

The 20-year-old victim remains at Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with an alleged baseball bat attack in Chelsea, Massachusetts that left a man with life-threatening injuries.

The teen was expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on Tuesday. He faces charges of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed assault with intent to murder.

The assault happened at about 11:30 a.m. on Monday near the tennis courts of Mary O'Malley Park, according to Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes. The victim, identified only as a 20-year-old off-duty security guard, remains in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Kyes said state police divers had recovered an aluminium bat allegedly thrown into the nearby Island End River by the suspect.

Investigators said they are searching for a man and woman seen running from the scene after the assault.

Kyes said there was "no specific mention of motive at this time." The attack remains under investigation.
