Teen Driving 135 MPH Passes Unmarked Police Cruiser

Austin Oliver, 18, was cited for negligent operation

A teen who admitted he was driving at speeds up to 135 mph allegedly blew by an unmarked state police cruiser on Interstate 91 in Vermont last week.

The driver, Austin Oliver, 18, of Strafford, Vermont, was issued a citation for negligent operation and is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court in Brattleboro. The date of the court appearance was not given.

According to Vermont State Police, a state trooper was driving south on I-91 in Rockingham in an unmarked cruiser on Sept. 15 when a blue Subaru Impreza passed him in the right-hand travel lane and continued southbound.

After passing several other vehicles, the Subaru increased its rate of speed, reaching speeds over 125 mph before it was ultimately stopped by the trooper. The traffic was reportedly heavy at the time.

Oliver admitted to police that he had been driving 135 mph and said he did not initially recognize the unmarked cruiser as a police car until it caught up to him.
