Today is the lone day of transition from a Monday that delivered up to half a foot of snow to parts of New England and a Wednesday that will push temperatures through the mid-80s.

In the transition today, puffy clouds will mix with sun and at times blot it out while dropping a few isolated sprinkles and light showers — the last remnant of the upper atmosphere storm that’s been harassing New England for the past couple of days.

Shifting wind brings warmer air and a drying airmass, at least for a time, to New England Wednesday, though in the summery sun, pollen count will soar, air quality will diminish, and the UV index will return to sunburn levels.

Nonetheless, the next approaching cold front will be slow enough to allow for temperatures well into the 80s again Thursday — and perhaps running closer to 90 degrees in Boston — while showers and thunderstorms erupt near the front in northern New England, and may slide into southern New England by day’s end.

The same, slow-moving front will linger over New England Friday, keeping an elevated chance of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast and bringing the temperatures down a notch for one and all.

The latest trend is to keep the front moving quickly enough that we very well may dry out nicely for the weekend, but it’s still early and a slight delay in timing would continue a chance for scattered showers into Saturday, but right now the weekend looks good, overall, with more classic spring air returning to New England and sticking around through next week in the exclusive Early Warning Weather 10-day forecast.
