Three Die in Vermont SUV, Tractor-Trailer Crash

An SUV and a tractor-trailer collided on a mountain road, leaving three dead

Vermont State Police say a tractor-trailer crashed into an SUV on a mountain road covered with slush and ice, killing three people in a ski resort town.

Police say 41-year-old Lashawn Jones, of Alpharetta, Georgia, was driving the tractor-trailer east on Route 4 and the Cadillac SUV was traveling west in Killington when they crashed head-on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say witnesses reported the truck veered across the centerline and into the other lane.

The SUV driver, 51-year-old Ryszard Malarczyk, and his wife, 50-year-old Anita, of Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, died in the crash, as did their friend, 51-year-old Jaroslaw Karczewski, of Poland.

Jones was taken to a hospital for examination, as were the Malarczyks' three children, ages 16 to 22.

Police say the extent of the injuries is unknown, but they aren't life-threatening.
