A mother has pleaded not guilty to charges after her 2-year-old son was found wandering the streets of a northern Vermont town in just a dirty diaper during a below-freezing morning.
A local official, his wife and another motorist found the toddler Monday morning in Brownington. State police say the temperature was 30 degrees when the child was found.
WPTZ-TV reports 28-year-old Mica Collier pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Orleans County court to charges of reckless endangerment and giving false information to a law enforcement officer.
Police say Collier didn't know the child was missing. Investigators described her residence as filthy, with dog waste on the floor, and in disarray.
Collier tells the TV station her son wandered away after waking up from a nap.
