What to Know

  • Patriots quarterback Tom Brady refused to say if he'll visit the White House during an event Thursday, saying only, "Next question."
  • Brady skipped the team's visit to the White House after the 2017 Super Bowl win, which reportedly angered President Donald Trump.
  • Brady and Trump have described themselves as friends in the past, but at least publicly, it appears their relationship has cooled.

Tom Brady refused to answer a question Thursday about whether he'll visit the White House if the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots are invited.

"Next question," the quarterback said when asked about the trip at a ceremonial shave event at Gillette World Shaving Headquarters.

Brady and President Trump have described each other as friends in the past, with Trump even speaking in support of Brady following his 4-game "Deflategate" suspension. Trump has even suggested that he wished his daughter Ivanka had married Brady.

But Brady skipped the Patriots' visit to the White House after the team won the Super Bowl in 2017, a move that reportedly angered Trump. That came after Brady took some heat in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election for saying he thought Trump would make a "great" president and for displaying a red "Make America Great Again" hat in his locker. So much so that his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, told him not to talk about politics anymore.

In recent days, three Patriots players have said they will not go to the White House if the team is invited.

Safety Devin McCourty said he'll skip the visit, and his twin brother Jason McCourty said he doubts he'll go. Fellow defensive back Duron Harmon had already said he wouldn't be going to the White House.

"Nah, man," he said after Sunday's Super Bowl win. "They don't want me in the White House, man."

Brady fielded several other questions from the media on Thursday, including one asking when he's running for president.

"I'm not running for president," he said flatly.

He revealed that his one indulgence after winning the Super Bowl was drinking margaritas, and said he had a bet that tight end Rob Gronkowski would have his shirt off at Tuesday's championship parade by the second block.

"I was right," he cracked.

Brady was also asked about his Super Bowl superstitions, and said his wife makes a little altar for him consisting of healing stones and protection stones. He said he also wears a necklace, takes drops and recites mantras.

Gillette performed Thursday's shave on Brady and is set to donate $35,000 each to three organizations: the Boys and Girls Club of South Boston, Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Best Buddies.

Brady also signed a Patriots-branded Gillette razor that will be entered in an auction. The money raised by the auction will be donated to his favorite charities.
