Roughly 15 Fire Companies Battle Recycling Plant Blaze

The blaze at Aggregate Recycling Corp. in Eliot was reported around 12:44 p.m. Tuesday

Fire crews from roughly 15 communities were called to knock down a massive blaze at a commercial recycling plant in southern Maine.

The blaze at Aggregate Recycling Corp. in Eliot was reported around 12:44 p.m. Tuesday. Crews arrived to find a 40,000-square-foot transfer station fully engulfed in flames.

It took approximately 7,500 feet of hose, six pumper trucks and about 60 firefighters to control the fire. No injuries were reported.

Fire Chief Jay Muzeroll says he suspects the fire was unintentionally set and it will take at least 12 hours to clean up.

The State Fire Marshal's Office was called to investigate the cause of the blaze and assess the damage due to its "expected high dollar loss." The building that ignited was housing expensive recycling equipment.
