"It was just an ugly scene, you know what I mean," he said of what he witnessed.

A Carver police officer who was blocking the road for the tree work saw what happened and called for an ambulance.

The worker, a 33-year-old Rhode Island man, was rushed to a hospital with head trauma and facial injuries. Police say he was alert and talking on his way to the hospital, despite his serious injuries.

His condition was not immediately known.

Tuesday night, the majority of the town remained without power, as did many other Massachusetts residents.

Carver police tweeted Tuesday afternoon that trees and power lines are down everywhere, asking residents to stay home for their own safety and for those who have to be out working in this weather.

No further information was immediately available.
