Trial Set for Rutland Man Charged With Stabbing Death of Brother

A judge has set the trial date for a Massachusetts man charged with murder in the stabbing death of his brother.

The Telegram & Gazette reports 68-year-old Michael Dowjat will head to trial March 22 for the death of his 59-year-old brother, David Alan.

Alan's body was found inside a 1960s-style bomb shelter underneath his Rutland home in June 2014. Prosecutors previously said Alan was stabbed more than 70 times and his head, arms and legs were severed.

State police say Dowjat had not spoken to his brother for 20 years. Prosecutors say the relationship between the two had deteriorated after Dowjat was left out of their father's will.

Dowjat has pleaded not guilty to his charge of first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bail.
