Two people were arrested early Tuesday after they allegedly carjacked a minivan in downtown Boston, according to police.

Fifty-three-year-old Adrian Thompson of Dorchester and 24-year-old Mahad Ali Farah-Haji of Charlestown are expected to be arraigned on carjacking charges in Boston Municipal Court on Tuesday.

Boston police said a man told authorities he was parked on Surface Road just before 1:30 a.m. when two men entered his minivan and demanded cash. The suspects refused to leave the vehicle and the victim drove towards South Station on Atlantic Avenue in an effort to get help from police.

After the victim left the vehicle, one of the suspects allegedly jumped in the driver’s seat and took off. Police later found the stolen minivan just after 4 a.m. in Downtown Crossing.

There, authorities attempted to perform a traffic stop when the driver of the vehicle fled on foot. An officer chased after him and was able to arrest the driver, who was identified as Thompson.

Meanwhile, a second officer arrested the vehicle’s passenger, Farah-Haji.

Thompson was also charged with operating a motor vehicle after revocation and resisting arrest.

It is unclear if either suspect has an attorney.
