US Marshals Warn of Jury Duty Scam in New Hampshire

The U.S. Marshals Service says residents in the Concord, New Hampshire, area have been getting calls in a scam about having to pay hundreds of dollars for failing to appear for federal jury duty.

The marshals say residents have been contacted from someone from a fictitious agency referred to as the "Federal Warrant Service." The caller identifies himself as a high-ranking officer saying the recipient has a warrant for failing to appear for duty. The caller would give the option of paying up to $650, plus a $150 processing fee, to avoid the warrant. If the recipient didn't comply, he'd be told agents would be coming to arrest him.

The marshals say people who miss jury duty may be requested to provide an explanation, or directed to appear at court.
