Undeclared Cash Found Sewn Into Underwear at Logan Airport

In total, Customs and Border Protection officers seized nearly $27,000 in undeclared currency from a traveling couple

Officials at Logan International Airport discovered $4,900 in undeclared cash sewn inside a pair of underwear, according to police.

On Nov. 8, a 63-year-old woman and her 63-year-old husband were on a flight from Doha, Qatar when they were asked to declare any currency they had during a secondary examination.

The couple claimed they had $12,000, but officials found the $4,900 after a patdown and search of posessions. During the search, officials also discovered approximately $2,000 in Canadian currency and more than $20,000 in U.S. currency.

Customs and Border Protection seized nearly $27,000 in undeclared currency from the couple, officials said.

Travelers in and out of the U.S. can carry as much currency as they'd like, but must report it if the sum exceeds $10,000.
