Vermont Colleges Investigate White Supremacist Postings

Officials at the University of Vermont and St. Michael's College say they are investigating white supremacist signs and stickers that are being posted around the colleges' campuses.

UVM said Thursday that signs defending white privilege were posted in the university's Mosaic Center for Students of Color. The Burlington Free Press reports St. Michael's President Jack Neuhauser said Sunday that officials are investigating similar signs at his university.

Neuhauser said the college supports free speech, but will not tolerate hate speech when it is veiled as free speech — citing news reports that the postings are meant to encourage white nationalists and not promote equality for all.

Officials at UVM say they are planning a student gathering this week to help discuss the signs.
