Upcoming Showers Deliver Extreme Heat, Chance of Localized Flooding

Showers and thunderstorms were on a warm front yesterday, which passed from south to north without too much damage.

However, a thunderstorm in southwestern Connecticut around 3 p.m. did cause some damage and localized flooding. The biggest change is that our dew point temperature is now in the 70s, the feel of Florida again.

Temperatures start the day in the 70s to near 80.

With a mixture of sun and clouds and some patchy dense fog, any fog will lift to a partly-to-mostly sunny sky, with scattered afternoon showers and downpours.

Most of us will not see rain, but where it does rain it can really come down heavily for a short time.

High temperature near 90 degrees for many locations, cooler along the south coast. Wind from the southwest may gust 25-to-30 mph, especially near the shore.

An upper-level trough of low pressure has stalled along the East Coast with waves of energy coming north. The next heavier batch of energy comes in late Thursday and Friday. With more clouds Friday, it should not be as hot. High temperatures will be in the 80s with showers and afternoon storms more likely.

Pretty much the same story for Saturday, though we may have a bit of sunshine near the beach after some morning fog. Much of New England will see more clouds than sunshine Saturday with showers and thunderstorms that may cause localized flash flooding.

Somewhat less humid air may arrive for the second half of the weekend with increasing sunshine Sunday afternoon and Monday.

But there's not much change in our weather pattern going forward into next week in the longer range.
