A National Grid worker was injured Tuesday morning after being shocked while working on a utility pole in Norton, Massachusetts.
Police said a detail officer working with the crew in the area of 40 West Hodges St. called for help when the worker fell out of the bucket truck he was working in and struck power lines at about 10 a.m.
"It looks like he hit the wires coming down—probably the primary and neutral-and fell to the ground probably 30 or so feet," said one police officer on the scene.
The 40-year-old male worker sustained life-threatening injuries from electrical burns and the fall.
The detail officer and a fellow National Grid employee performed CPR before first responders arrived.
"We are very fortunate. I think they probably saved his life by giving him CPR and the first aid," said the Norton police officer. "We have details all over the place and it's more than just directing traffic."
The victim, who has not been identified, was then transported to Rhode Island Hospital for an evaluation.

National Grid released a statement on the incident:
"National Grid is committed to the safety of its employees and is reviewing the incident," read the statement.
The incident remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
