VT Man Accused of Driving Toward Oncoming Car, Charged With Attempted Murder

A Vermont man was arrested on an attempted murder charge after he allegedly drove toward oncoming traffic on purpose.

State police said 53-year-old Jeffrey Cota of Bakersfield was arrested Sunday night after authorities responded to a call of a head-on collision on Route 36. An investigation determined the suspect intentionally drove into an oncoming car that was driven by a family member.

Authorities said emergency responders and firefighters responded to the scene to assist with injuries. It is unclear how many people were hurt or what the extent of those injuries was.

Cota is scheduled to appear in Franklin District Court Monday at 12:30 p.m. His bail is set at $100,000. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
