A Vermont judge is going to settle a dispute between a mosquito-control district and an environmental group appealing the pesticide permit awarded to the group by the state.
The Rutland Herald reports that last year, the Toxic Action Center appealed the Agency of Natural Resources' decision to allow the Insect Control District that covers the towns of Brandon, Leicester, Salisbury, Goshen and Pittsford to spray mosquito-killing chemicals.
The center argued the district, which was formed in 1979 to control mosquito populations, hadn't met its requirements to monitor the effects of the chemicals on water and organisms other than mosquitoes.
The district's board chairman, Ben Lawton, says the center really wants the district to stop using the chemicals altogether.
Woody Little, of the Toxic Action Center, says his group is disappointed.
