Vermont School Employee Arrested for Allegedly Sexually Abusing 13-Year-Old Student

48-year-old Jon R. Gilbert of Rutland has been charged with lewd and lascivious conduct with a child

A Vermont man has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a 13-year-old female student while on a summer school trip and having alleged sexual conversations on Facebook.

Forty-eight-year-old Jon R. Gilbert of Rutland has been charged with lewd and lascivious conduct with a child.

Vermont State Police say the investigation started back in October when they were notified by the state's Department of Children and Family Services over concerns of inappropriate sexual conduct between Gilbert, who was employed at the time of the offense with the Vermont Achievement Center as a therapeutic advocate in its autistic program and is currently employed with Rutland City Public Schools at its Allen Street campus, and a 13-year-old female student.

During their investigation, state police say they discovered Gilbert sexually abused the girl during a summer school trip and was having sexual conversations on Facebook.

Gilbert was arrested and was issued a citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court on Feb. 16.
