Vermont Man Pleads Not Guilty to Murder in Shooting Death

A Sharon, Vermont, man has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of man found shot in his car in Brattleboro.

Thirty-nine-year-old Leonard Moffatt entered the plea Monday in Windham County Superior Court. A judge ordered him held without bail. No future hearings have been scheduled.

Court documents allege Moffatt shot 35-year-old Sultan Rashed of Brattleboro on Nov. 8 in the parking lot of an auto repair shop. Rashed's body was discovered the next day.

State's Attorney Davis Gartenstein tells The Brattleboro Reformer the affidavit indicates a drug-related connection between Rashed and Moffatt. He says the investigation is evolving.
