Vermont Public Safety to Test Amber Alert Fixes

The Vermont Department of Public Safety is going to be testing a redesigned Amber Alert system to correct shortcomings noticed after the system was used last month.

The Wednesday test will be the first since the system helped recover safely on Sept. 5 a 4-year-old girl taken by a relative in violation of a court order.

After reviewing how the system worked last month officials noted that many people who subscribed to the system received the Amber Alert tones, but no details on why the alert was issued.

The most significant change in the revised system will be to use the VT Alert to distribute the Amber Alert. The VT Alert system is used to warn of impending severe storms or other emergencies.
