Vermont State Police Investigate Death After Altercation

Vermont State Police detectives are investigating the death of a Burlington man who was found dead two days after he was involved in an altercation with a Burlington police officer.

On Thursday, the body of 54-year-old Douglas Kilburn was found in his Burlington home.

Burlington police say that on Monday night officers were called to the emergency department of the University of Vermont Medical Center where Kilburn allegedly hit officer Cory Campbell in the face. Campbell then punched Kilburn in return.

Kilburn was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital on Tuesday. He was cited for a variety of charges. Two days later he was found dead.

Officials are trying to determine the cause of Kilburn's death.

Campbell was placed on administrative leave until Monday.
