Vermont Woman Pleads No Contest in Fatal Bicycle Crash

A Vermont woman has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge in a fatal crash that killed a bicyclist earlier this year.

Holly Gonyeau of Ferrisburgh changed her not guilty plea on Monday in a Middlebury court.

Sixty-year-old Ken Najarian of Charlotte was killed on June 17 when he was riding his bicycle and collided with a car driven by the 36-year-old Gonyeau. Authorities concluded the primary cause of the collision was Najarian's attempt to make a U-turn.

Gonyeau was sentenced to a year of probation and 80 hours of community service. She is prohibited from drinking alcohol and must undergo counseling.

Gonyeau's lawyer says he's pleased with the judge's decision. A lawsuit filed by Najarian's wife, Kristine, against Gonyeau is pending in Burlington.
