Vt. Company Battles Facebook Over Trademark

Designbook LLC has received hundreds of pages of documents from Facebook claiming their name could cause confusion in the digital marketplace

A Vermont upstart is disputing Facebook's claim that their name infringes on the social media giants trademark.

Necn affiliate WPTZ-TV reports Designbook LLC has received hundreds of pages of documents from Facebook claiming their name could cause confusion in the digital marketplace.

Aaron Pollak with Designbook says Facebook didn't want them to using the suffix "book" at all in the online community.

At least two other small Vermont companies have taken on big business for similar disputes.

Monster Energy went up against a Vermont beer maker in 2009 claiming Rock Art's beer, "Vermonster," was too similar to their own.

Pollack says the company believes there's no confusion.

Legal experts say one cannot trademark generic terms.

WPTZ-TV reached out to Facebook's legal representatives but has not heard back.
