Wareham Police Find Burglary Suspect Under Pool Table

Officers say they then tried to enter the apartment, but Alfonso had barricaded himself inside.

A man has been charged with breaking and entering in Wareham.

According to police, Michael D. Alfonso, 26, of Middleboro, was arrested Saturday night after he allegedly broke into a home.

Police say they responded to a Highland Court residence for a break and entering in progress at about 10 p.m. Saturday.

The caller said they had pulled into their driveway and saw a man walking down a set of stairs that led to an apartment above a detached garage.

The man was reportedly carrying a large shopping bag and ran back up the steps when he saw the caller in the driveway.

When police arrived, they saw Alfonso's shoes at the top of the steps. They ordered him to come down with his hands visible, but Alfonso disappeared into the apartment.

Officers say they then tried to enter the apartment, but Alfonso had barricaded himself inside.

When Alfonso refused to open the door and surrender, the officers forced open the door and after a brief search located the suspect hiding under a pool table.

An investigation led police to determine that Alfonso had taken multiple items valued at over $1,000 and put them in the shopping bag.

Alfonso is charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony and larceny from a building.

He is being held on $5,000 cash bail and is expected at Wareham District Court on Monday morning.

It is unclear if Alfonso has an attorney.
