A pair of Christmas Eve hockey games that have been a holiday tradition on the South Shore for decades have taken on a new significance this year.

The decades-old rivalry between two Massachusetts high school hockey teams continued Monday, as the Hingham and Weymouth boys and girls teams played in sold-out, back-to-back games at Pilgrim Skating Arena.

This year's matchups were played in memory of Weymouth Police Sgt. Michael Chesna, who died in the line of duty in July.

The $10 tickets sold out quickly, sending lines wrapping around the rink and out the doors. The teams, which planned the fundraiser over the summer shortly after Chesna's death, also sold raffle tickets and souvenirs.

"You never forget where you came from," said Weymouth native Charlie Coyle, who now plays for the Minnesota Wild. "It's great to see everyone come together, and the town come together to honor him and his family."

Chesna's widow, Cindy, and their two children watched the games from the stands.

    Hingham won both games.

All proceeds will go to the Chesna family.
