According to police, the younger Panjrolia fired a shot from an assault rifle in a bathroom of a Philadelphia home. He then allegedly aimed the weapon in the direction of his parents, firing multiple shots at his father.

After the slaying, police said Panjrolia was schizophrenic and may have been on drugs.

    THE MANHUNT

Following the incident, Panjrolia allegedly fled with the assault rifle. The car he left in was discovered a few blocks away, but the suspect was nowhere to be found.

Police in Pennsylvania asked for the public's help in searching for Panjrolia, who was described as being armed and dangerous.

Tuesday morning, the search led investigators to Harvard Square in Cambridge, where a police officer from Harvard University spotted his rental car in a parking garage.

    SHELTER-IN-PLACE

Police converged on Harvard Square, with a shelter-in-place order declared in the area near JFK Street and Eliot Street.

The public was warned of a "potentially armed assailant" in the area. People were urged to "use extreme caution."

Panjrolia was taken into custody without incident. No gun was found.

"We were lucky here in that we caught the suspect unprepared," Cambridge Police Commissioner Branville Bard said Tuesday.

WHY DID HE COME TO CAMBRIDGE?

Details in the case continue to emerge, but people in Cambridge were on edge with the police scene overtaking Harvard Square days after mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton.

While authorities have not said why Panjrolia traveled about 300 miles to Cambridge, he has a history in the community.

Panjrolia earned a bachelor of liberal arts from the Harvard University Extension School in 2013, a school representative said.

    WHAT'S NEXT?

Panjrolia appeared in court Wednesday, pleading not guilty to a fugitive from justice charge. He will be extradited to Pennsylvania, where he is due to appear in court Aug. 21.
