Where to Find Early Foliage This Weekend

Some color is already showing up in parts of New England

While most of the leaves across New England are still green, we’re finding the first signs of early color in parts of Northern New England.

In Vermont early color is developing in patches up and down the spine of the Green Mountains, and in the higher terrain of the Northeast Kingdom. A drive along Route 100 north of Warren will guide you to some of these splashes of color.

In New Hampshire the color is limited, but in the White Mountains a few trees are turning. You’ll find hints of color by driving along the Kancamagus Highway.

Maine’s foliage hasn’t truly started to kick in just yet. Very isolated color can be found in the higher terrain of far Northwestern Maine, so your best bet for finding color would be to drive along Route 16 near Rangeley.

The combination of sunny days and chilly nights this weekend will help to accelerate the foliage progression.
