Widespread Rain Overnight, Beautiful Week Ahead

High temperatures are close to 80 the next couple of days

A wet front is crossing New England from west to east overnight, with the most widespread rain for New England that we have seen in weeks. Rainfall in any one location only lasts 2 to 4 hours, but we may get rates of 1/4 inch per hour or more. The heaviest rain for Boston happens between 3 and 5 a.m., with a chance of a thunderstorm too.

By 8 a.m., the rain is ending from Cape Cod to Central Maine. Last to see the dry weather is eastern Maine, where the sun will be out by early afternoon.

Then starting in the afternoon, we have a sprawling high-pressure system coming in with low humidity and seasonable temperatures.

Under sunny skies, high temperatures are close to 80 the next couple of days, with a gradual warming trend toward the end of the week when we approach 85 to 90.

Nice nights for sleeping too with low temperature in the 50s and 60s, even a few 40s in some of the cooler locations Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

The next front approaches from Canada on Friday with the possibility for scattered thunderstorms Friday and Saturday.

The tropics may become more active in the next couple of weeks. We could use some tropical rains to come in and linger for a couple of days, hopefully without any powerful wind. It is something to keep an eye on as we move into September.
