New Police Chief of Foxborough, Mass. Named

Seventy-six candidates originally applied for the position

There's a new voice of law enforcement at the home of the New England Patriots.

The Sun Chronicle reports that Foxborough, Massachusetts, selectmen on Tuesday named William Baker the town's new police chief to replace Ed O'Leary, who's retiring after 31 years as department head.

Foxborough's chief is in charge of security during events at Gillette Stadium in town, including not just Patriots games, but other sporting events and concerts, and is a familiar voice in the media.

Town Manager Bill Keegan says Baker was selected because of his experience, which includes stints as police chief in five communities, most recently in Westbrook, Maine, from 2007 to 2011. Since then, he has been working for Keane Federal Systems, an FBI contractor in Virginia.

Seventy-six candidates originally applied for the position.
