Woman Charged With Torture Found Not Guilty, Insane

A Connecticut woman charged with torturing her 70-year-old mother for more than three hours has been found not guilty by reason of insanity

A Connecticut woman charged with torturing her 70-year-old mother for more than three hours has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Hartford Superior Court Judge Jose Suarez issued the verdict Tuesday in the case of 47-year-old Gail Litsky, who chose a trial before a judge instead of a jury. Suarez is expected to commit Litsky to a psychiatric hospital Dec. 23.

Police said Litsky told investigators that God told her to attack her mother. Authorities said Litsky went to her mother's West Hartford home in February, repeatedly struck her, cut her with a knife several times and choked her, before giving up in apparent frustration when her mother wouldn't die.

Litsky was charged with attempted murder, assault and cruelty to persons.

Her mother, Evelyn Nirenstein, testified at trial.
