Woman Dies, Officer Treated After House Fire

Police officers made several attempts to enter the structure and finally pulled Laura Baas from the house

Police in Stowe, Vermont say a 55-year-old woman is dead after a fire swept through a home on Edson Hill Road.

Stowe Police Chief Donald Hull says the fire was called in at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Police officers made several attempts to enter the structure and finally pulled Laura Baas from the house. Baas was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

One officer at the scene was treated for smoke inhalation.

The house was damaged extensively. Hull says a preliminary investigation shows the cause of the fire is not suspicious.
